One Killed and Seven Hospitalized in Tragic Miami Car Accident

Earlier last month in Miami, a fatal car accident claimed the life of one elderly man and injured seven others, including the elderly man’s wife and six teenagers riding in another vehicle. According to one local news report, the accident took place near the intersection of Northwest Seventh Street and 35th Avenue.

Evidently, a vehicle carrying six teenagers was traveling eastbound on Northwest Seventh Street approaching the intersection with 35th Avenue. As the vehicle approached the intersection, an oncoming black SUV carrying an elderly couple attempted to make a left-hand turn in front of the teens’ vehicle. The two vehicles collided, causing the SUV to overturn. Nearby witnesses to the accident were quick to come to the aid of those involved, pulling the elderly couple from their mangled vehicle.

Unfortunately, the heroic efforts of the bystanders were not enough to save the elderly man’s life, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at the hospital. Seven others, including the man’s wife and all six teens in the other vehicle, were all transported to the hospital with various injuries. It is expected that these seven will survive their injuries.

Police have begun an investigation into the fatal accident, but, at the time of the article’s publication, no one is facing charges for their involvement in the accident.

Fatal Left-Turn Accidents on Florida Roads

Each year, hundreds of people are seriously injured or killed in accidents that occur in Florida intersections. The Florida Department of Transportation estimates that roughly one half of all fatal accidents that occur at intersections involve a left-turning vehicle. The Department notes that the most common causes of these accidents are driver distraction, drunk driving, and poor driver decision-making.

When a left-turn accident is caused by any of the three causes listed above, the innocent accident victim may be able to seek monetary compensation for their injuries. Most commonly, this is done through filing a Florida negligence lawsuit against the responsible party. While the driver or owner of the vehicle will be the named party to the lawsuit, an accident victim should expect that the driver’s insurance company will also join in the lawsuit to defend the insured. This can mean the complication of what initially seems to be a simple or straightforward lawsuit. To learn more about Florida car accidents, contact an experienced Florida personal injury attorney.
