Two Motorcycle Accidents in Palm Beach County Leaves One Man Dead and Another in Serious Condition

Earlier this month in Palm Beach County, one man was killed and another injured in a motorcycle accident involving two bikes. According to one local news source, the accident occurred just before midnight on a Thursday evening as the two men were on their way home to Broward County from a dinner celebrating one of the riders’ birthdays.

Evidently, one of the motorcyclists lost control of his bike on Interstate 95 just north of Yamato Road. As that rider slid out of control, the other rider who was riding next to him also lost control as he tried to avoid the fallen bike on the highway. Both bikes slid for several hundred feet before coming to a complete stop.

The rider who first fell off of his bike was pronounced dead by emergency workers on the scene. The other rider was taken to Delray Medical Center, where he was admitted with serious injuries. As of the most recent report, he is in stable condition and is expected to fully recover after surgery and physical therapy. Both riders were wearing helmets.

Police are not sure what caused the deceased rider to lose control of his bike in the first place. However, they are in the midst of an investigation that will hopefully provide both families with some answers.

Finding the Cause of Fatal Motorcycle Accidents

Hundreds of motorcycle accidents occur each year across the State of Florida. While some of those accidents are attributable to driver error, many are caused by someone or something outside the motorcyclist’s control. For example, some common causes of motorcycle accidents are:

  • Gravel on the roadway;
  • Another driver failing to maintain a proper lookout;
  • Another driver failing to yield;
  • Another driver’s inability to judge the motorcyclist’s rate of speed; and
  • Aggressive, drunk, or drowsy driving.

There is no clear indication what caused the accident discussed above. However, that does not necessarily mean that one or both of the riders cannot pursue a cause of action. For example, the surviving driver may have a claim against the deceased rider’s insurance company if that rider was negligent in some way. This is even the case if the at-fault driver died in the accident. To learn more about Florida motorcycle accidents, speak with a dedicated personal injury attorney.
